In From The Cold Mini Project and Gift Bag
Hi Y’all,
I’m Tammy V and have the pleasure of working at Moda Fabrics in customer service.
When I got a hold of this cute wintery line of fabric my mind couldn’t shut off.  While making the quilt to test the pattern for the free quilt project sheet, I kept thinking how cute it would be to make these cups  smaller.  So I did.
Over the next couple of days I will be sharing the instructions to
make my "mini-moda" In From The Cold projects.
Spending most of my life in Indiana and dealing with the cold winters, my first winter spent in Texas has definitely been “in from the cold” and I love it.   I hope you enjoy making these projects that will warm  your heart this winter.
All projects can be made from one fat quarter bundle and extra fabric for the 3B’s;  background , binding, and backings.
TABLE RUNNER-Day 2's project
Make 5 of your favorite cups in the half size.
GIFT BAG
PLACEMAT

To begin, please print the  link to the mini cup's cutting infomation. The directions are fairly self explanatory however you can use the full size pattern from the website for construction.

The first project will be a gift bag.

In from the Cold – mini projects made from half sizing the project sheet

1)  Ruffled topped Gift bag
Fabric:  fat quarter bundle of “In from the Cold” by Kate Spain
(This bundle will do several projects )
For the gift bag I used one fat quarter of:
White (frame), mint cookie print (outside), mint leaf print (inside) and red stripe (ruffle)
Supplies:  950F Pellon shirt tailor fusible white interfacing – for stability
Below are my rough directions on how I made this with my leftovers from the project sheet plus fabric for the bag itself. Detailed directions can be printed using this link.
Directions:
1.   Create one mini block of your choice – size will be about 5.5”x7.5”
See project sheet for directions/ conversion chart for cutting instructions.
2.  From the white fabric cut a couple of 1.5” strips and sew onto the bottom,
top and right side of the block.
Using your rotary cutter and ruler, clean up the edges to make a rectangle – mine
measured 6.5”x 9.5”
If you want your bag to be shorter don’t add the border,  I felt it needed to be framed.
3. From the mint fabric for the outside of the bag cut one 10”x20” and a couple of 2.5” strips.
Frame the mini block with the 2.5” strips and then add on the 10”x20” piece to the bottom.
Trim up the sides to fit the 10” of the bag.
4.  From the mint fabric for the inside of the bag cut one 10”x20” and two 10” by what is left, I had 8” left.
Sew together  as shown to make a larger piece for the gift bag.
   10” x  8”           10” x 20”          10” x 8”
Cut the fusible interfacing  the size of the outside and inside of the bag.
Fuse as directed on the package, this will make the bag no so whimpy.
5.   Square up both sides of the inside and outside of the bag to match and sew the side seams of each.
Box the corners by measuring about 2.25” up from the tip, mark and sew, see below.
Mark and don’t sew one of the inside boxed corners, you will turn through this opening.
6. For the ruffle cut two 4.5” strips from the red stripe fabric, sew the two together along the 4.5” end,  press in half so you have a 2.25” strip.  Ruffle or gather as you like then attach to the top of the outside bag piece.
Ruffle foot is great if you have one.  I just left a bit of the ruffle and started to sew around, then tucked in the end.
7.  Sew inside and outside together around the top, put the right sides together.

Pull the bag right side out through the open corner and then top stitch it close.

Ta-Da your bag is ready to fill with a coffee mug, cookies, or that special liqueur.
From the fat quarter bundle there is a cute panel with gift tags to make to add to your bag.
Detailed directions can be printed using this link.
Tomorrow we have a cute tablerunner for you, stay tuned.
